Every year, the academic staff across our three colleges in the UK award the Kings Scholarship to three of its top students.
This is in recognition of academic achievement and it might mean we recognise the efforts of the most improved student or the student that achieved the highest grades in their A-level or Foundation programme.
There are three categories:
- Best A-level student
- Best Foundation student
- Most improved student
Each Kings Scholarship is a total of £6,000, which the student receives in three batches of £2,000, one for each year of their undergraduate degree in the UK.
It is a difficult decision as we have many students who satisfy one or two of the three categories in each college.
Best A-level student 2015
This year we decided to split the award for Best A-level Student between two students as they both did so well, it would have been unfair to award the scholarship to one and not the other:
- Ying Xu, who is going to the London School of Economics (LSE)
- Zixuan Xiong, who is going to the University of Cambridge, Gonville and Caius College, to study Economics
You can read an interview with Zixuan Xiong in Kings Life.
Best Foundation student 2015
Yue Li from China attended the Advanced Level Foundation programme and scored 90% overall, with 13 out of her 15 assessments all scoring 80% or above. She showed skills and ability in humanities and mathematics alike and she is now going to the University of Manchester to study Accounting and Finance.
Most improved student 2015
This award goes to Sheryn Marie Yidi David from Colombia. Sheryn did an Advanced Level Foundation and is now going to study Film Production at UCA Farnham. Through hard work and acting upon advice at all times, she made progress in all areas. She prepared extensively for the interviews with the five universities she applied for and got offers from all five.
