Silvio studied the Intensive English course at Kings Boston and has received acceptances to complete a Master's degree in Public Policy at three nationally ranked US universities.

"I am from Brazil. I finished my high school there and attended Law School there as well. I completed Law School last year and passed the Bar Exam in Brazil. I always had a dream of studying in an American university, and this dream is coming true. After graduation I will seek a PhD in this very area of study, and after that I intend to work in the Brazilian diplomatic service.

Kings is amazing! The staff are the best, the teachers and the other employees all make the time and are willing to help us with any problems. They are very patient and kind, therefore there it is a fantastic environment to develop our skills as students."

"As we all know, English is a very important language which is used worldwide. I know that this certificate (Cambridge) is recognized in many universities and jobs, and I knew that studying English at a high level like Cambridge would give me the opportunity to improve my skills considerably and at the same time help me to communicate with English speakers.

My teacher Jan motivates us to do our best and never gives up when we don’t understand something. In fact, Jan believes in us and I strongly think that this is what made my experience at Kings so special."

Giacomo finished high school in Italy before coming to the UK to study English, think about his future study plans and experience living abroad.

"I haven't decided yet about my future so I wanted to do a year abroad and study English because it's an important language. At the same time, I don't know which university I want to go to — I want to take time to think about the subject I want to study. I also wanted to meet new people and have a new experience. For three months I did the Speaking and Discussion class, as this was my problem area. After that, I did Academic Reading and Writing, which might be helpful at university. Now I'm preparing for the FCE exam as I'd like to have a certificate. I think it's quite important. In the future maybe I'll also take the CAE."

Joan Pau Figuerola Pericas
from Spain

Joan Pau studied on the Intensive English program at Kings New Jersey.

"First of all, I was looking to go to England, but then I thought since I never have been to the United States, I wanted to spend 4 months in the US so I can travel America and learn about New Jersey. New Jersey is between New York City and Philadelphia. It is close enough that I can visit both cities. It's my first time in the US and I wanted to experience a place where I had never been to.

When you are here, you must go visit NYC. I also travelled to Miami, even though it is far it was a good opportunity to visit this city. Also, visiting Princeton was also a great experience because I felt like I was home in Mallorca.

The teachers are more like friends who teach you. They always help and we are very connected to one another. This line that connects us is very narrow, and the relationships between students and teachers is very close. I learned a lot from my teachers: Rafa, Mary-Helen, Kim, Brandon, and Matt."

I did an apprenticeship in a hotel and English is very important all over the world. I had three years with no English and this is the first time that I have learned it."

"I came to the US because I wanted to improve my education. I wanted to study my Master's. The USA has the best education in the world, so I wanted to study here. Before coming to the United States, I graduated university in Petroleum Engineering at Hanoi University. I worked for one month on an oil rig. My job was to take care of all the valves on the rig.

The time I studied (at Kings New Jersey) is valuable. Not only did I study English, but I had time to interact with other international students from countries like China, Korea and Japan. I also learned a lot about Latin countries like Colombia, Venezuela and Spain. I have some friends at Rider also. They helped me a lot when I first came here. A Vietnamese-American friend helped me and took me shopping. Other students told me about their experiences at Rider, and recommended classes to take and what major I should follow. In speaking and listening class, Felipe helped me a lot. Rafa also helped me a lot about American culture and about reading and writing in English."

“For me (learning English with Kings) it’s about the experience — meeting new people, and seeing new cultures. For example, I really like travel and I think when you travel you meet new things, different than in your country. I’ve been in almost 10 countries during my time here, and when you travel you speak English as it’s the universal language.”

Jonas Brahms
from Germany

"I came to Kings with the goal of taking the TOEFL test. There were two main reasons, why I wanted to take the TOEFL. Firstly, I'm pretty interested in doing a year, or at least a semester, abroad while studying and the TOEFL test is an international well recognized test of English and especially in the United States necessary for most of the universities. Secondly, there are a many universities in Germany and Europe where you get extra credits for your application if you have a good TOEFL score, so you get accepted way easier and actually it helped me a lot to get accepted at the university I’m going to study now."

In my opinion, seeing the world and opening your mind is the most important thing. You learn to appreciate more your family, your friends — it’s not easy but it’s the best decision.”

"Studying in England was like a dream come true. I came here with a goal, that was learning the language, but I learnt much more than that. Kings Bournemouth not only taught me the language, but also the culture and how to interact with people from different nationalities. Not to mention the life in Bournemouth, sandy beaches and a vibrant nightlife. 6 months is too little time, I’m really going to miss it."
